背景设置在近未来，主角是高级督察John Major及Roy Carver（Daniel Mays及Stephen Graham饰 ）；John及Roy是队中的灭罪精英拍档，但当一次卧底任务出错并造成John殉职后，警队因认为他是不可或缺的重要「资产」，于是决定把John的意识转移到一个实验性人工智能项目，使主角复活过来。
