当Reba Gallagher发现自己的丈夫，乡村音乐传奇歌手Bobby出轨后，她的心碎了一地。因为Reba自己就一直怀揣着成为一个乡村音乐巨星的梦想，但是为了照顾家庭，她放弃了这个事业。

现在Reba开始质疑自己当初所作出的选择，当她想清楚后，离婚协议书一签完，马上带着她说话尖刻的母亲Lillie May和两个孩子，开着卡车直奔阳光灿烂的加州，书写生活的新篇章。

离开了纳什维尔后，她们唯一剩下的财产就是马里布的一栋房子。在那里，Reba认识了友好的新邻居Kim以及她的儿子Sage。尽管得到了邻居的照顾，Reba还是发现自己跟这里的生活格格不入，因为加州的环境跟传统的南部小乡村太迥异了，让她觉得自己就是一个外人。
