Terry Gannon曾经是一名垒球联赛的全明星球员，直到她不小心怀孕，命运接着直转而下，她失去了学位，失去了丈夫，只好带着儿子Danny回到了疏远的单身父亲老Terry家。老Terry也曾经是名棒球选手，现在却成了个性格顽固的酒鬼。Terry从小被父亲强迫学打垒球，因此她不想让Danny重复自己的悲剧，但是Danny却萌发了对棒球的强烈兴趣，虽然他对棒球的基本常识都一窍不通，因此遭到了同学和祖父的嘲笑。Danny和其他一帮被学校棒球队拒绝的卢瑟们组成了一支队，得到了一位富有的邻居的支持，Terry勉为其难地成为了这支卢瑟队的教练.
