本剧由《真爱如血》的执行制片人Raelle Tucker和导演Scott Winant再度合作开发，制片方为最近出品了《利器》的Blumhouse。素材来自《格林童话》经典故事《没有手的姑娘》(The Handless Maiden)，还结合了Stephanie Oakes的小说《The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly》。讲述了一名无手少女在逃离邪//教后，因故进了少/管/所，她被怀疑知道是谁杀死了邪教领袖。
