本剧由CW制作，翻拍自80年代明同名剧集《侠胆雄狮》（Beauty and the Beast），新版的时代背景会更加具有现代感。
19岁的Catherine（克斯汀·克鲁克 Kristin Kreuk 饰）亲眼目睹了母亲惨死，自己则在神秘物种的帮助下逃过一劫。多年后她当上了调查谋杀案的女警官。在调查某一起谋杀案时，其中一条线索将她引向了早该死于阿富汗的医生Vincent（杰.瑞恩 Jay Ryan 饰）。随着对案件的追查，她渐渐了解了真相：Vincent就是她的救命恩人，因被注射某种药物而变成了一个半兽人，在被激怒时候会变成野兽。Catherine答应Vincent为其保守秘密，但他必须要告诉她关于母亲之死的线索。从此开始，两人之间复杂的关系开始萌芽，即相互吸引，彼此却又心知肚明这样的关系只会给两个人带来危险......
