故事开始于圣巴巴拉的一个警察家庭。Shawn成长于一个警察家庭，为了家族长久以来从事的行业，Shawn被他的父亲Henry从小培养，具备了对身边事物查之入微的神奇能力。对于多数家庭来说，父子间都存在着这样那样的矛盾，如此，Shawn便自某职业而非依靠家族惯例渡此余生。然而，出于自幼的习惯，Shawn对于看到和读到的案件极为敏感，当他努力接近真相的时候，警察的出现却使他经常地陷入困境。
