威尔逊船长死后留下了一座城堡--黑林城堡。船长的22岁的女儿简.威尔逊前来城堡料理后事，其父的家庭律师罗伯特.杰克逊说船长生前商定愿以10,000英镑出售城堡，然而简.威尔逊对此表示拒绝，不承认委托书。

奇怪的是，来访的客人居然还对附近的一个老酒馆客栈感兴趣。更令人恐惧的是在城堡附近的旷野和沼泽里不断有来访着莫名其妙地被一只带牙套的黑狗咬死。而且简.威尔逊小姐的床上也被人放上了一条毒蛇！

管理城堡地下室的是克里姆斯比，一个独眼龙。他养着一些毒蛇。他在毒蛇的牙齿中提取致命的毒液并放在牙套里安插在一条黑狗的尖牙上...

这一切到底是怎么回事呢？

随着威尔逊的前妻-也就是城堡的最后继承着凯瑟琳抵达城堡后一切开始明朗化了。

一番调查后，约翰爵士发现，城堡中出现的费尔班克斯，纳尔逊和被咬死的塔克等人都曾是威尔逊船长所管辖的“PRESENT MONRO”号轮船上的工作人员关于这艘船上，曾有珍贵的珠宝突然消失的“传说”。

那么，这些人是不是和这些珠宝有关呢？如果是这样，那珠宝在哪里呢？剧中威尔逊船长怎么会复活的呢？
