看起来老实忠厚的历史教师的格伦·兰道夫（大卫·克罗斯David Cross 饰）随同在网上结识的女友翠茜·斯科特（朱莉娅·斯代尔斯 Julia Stiles 饰）来到朋友艾玛（艾琳·海耶斯 Erinn Hayes 饰）和皮特（布雷斯·米勒 Blaise Miller 饰）家参加派对。进门前翠茜特别叮嘱了几条绝对不可提起的禁忌话题，但是拙于言辞的格伦尴尬之极仍不免触雷。原本欢声笑语的聚会因皮特和艾玛的离婚宣言而被紧张气氛所笼罩。雪上加霜的是，隔壁那个总穿着生化服的怪邻居哈尔向他们通报了一则惊人消息：市中心发现放射性武器，辐射计将蔓延到他们的住地。小小的房子内，不同性格的男女，爆笑连连，却又哭笑不得……
