午后，一位客人的意外到访将克罗利萨平静的心情击起了涟漪，也将她的思绪带回到了上个世纪末--1890年的一个夏天。当时的克罗利萨是那样的年轻、漂亮，拥有众多的追求者，而彼得就是其中之一，他们愉快的度过了整个夏天，彼得本以为克罗利萨将成为他的妻子，但瑞查德的出现很快便使他的期望化为乌有。渴望安定生活的克罗利萨嫁给了沉稳的瑞查德，而彼得则选择了远走他乡，去了印度。

30年后，再次出现在克罗利萨的面前，彼得仍在被感情所困绕，而面对昔日的恋人，克罗利萨也被一种无法抗拒的东西深深的打动，她开始厌倦了上层社会的虚伪和乏味，她似乎看到了隐藏在一个个身着光鲜的客人背后，那一张张丑陋的面孔。悠扬的乐曲中，克罗利萨与彼得翩翩起舞，同时也共同渴望着真实而美好的生活……
