一位天才的年轻风琴师玛丽开车兜风，路上搭载了一位神秘陌生人。车子意外坠桥，玛丽奇迹般生还。

后来玛丽来到盐湖城，在教堂里当上管风琴乐师。奇怪的是，城里的人们似乎意识不到她的存在。

美国经典恐怖Cult电影，影响了包括《活死人之夜》、《闪灵》以及《第六感》等后继作品。1998年还出现了翻拍版。影片最早投资17000美元，只用了三个星期就完成拍摄。1962年首度公映时剪掉了4分钟，1989年重新上映时恢复了这些从未曝光的场面。

标准版DVD收录83分钟完整导演版，D5格式，画质经修复后十分出色。杜比单声道音轨。花絮是长1小时“CentronCorpo鄄ration公司电影片段”。
