可爱的小男孩Musa一直与家人住在非洲村落内，生活无忧无虑，直到一次神秘疾病肆虐下，令他成为孤儿。Musa只好远行至镇内找叔叔，希望能过点好日子。Musa带着仅有的粮食和父母亲送给的大鼓，孤身上路并得到货车司机Nobe的热诚帮助，终于到达了约翰内斯堡，并尝试寻找工作。可是城里满是孤儿，根本无人愿意聘请他。艰辛的日子还是挨得住的，Musa意识到肆虐村落的正是“世纪绝症”——艾滋病。稚气未消的Musa已长大了，他自问有着非一般的使命——就是重返自己的村落，告诉村民真相。
