孤僻的约翰儿时许了一个愿，希望他的玩具泰迪熊可以活过来，成为他真正的朋友。奇迹发生了，泰迪（塞思·麦克法兰 Seth MacFarlane 配音）有了生命，并和约翰一起生活了二十多年。如今老大不小的约翰（马克·沃尔伯格 Mark Wahlberg 饰）无所事事，整天和泰迪一起抽烟喝酒吸大麻，过着醉生梦死的生活。直到他遇上美丽的劳丽（米拉·库妮丝 Mila Kunis 饰），决心要改变自己。可是，泰迪却并不喜欢约翰的新女友劳丽，总是处处给劳丽找麻烦，甚至破坏约翰和劳丽的感情。面对陪伴多年的老友，和刚刚俘获的女友，约翰要如何处理两者之间的关系？他是不是能找到一个平衡点呢？
