品特（方·基默 Val Kilmer 饰）再也没有想到的是，平凡的自己有朝一日竟然会遭到黑白两道的追杀，而整件事的始作俑者，大概就是之前在机场邂逅的神秘女子。现在他所知道的的是，自己似乎被别人误认成为了一个叫做“约翰卡特”的男子，而这名男子才是那群凶徒想要用枪指着其脑袋的家伙。

在一次又一次的逃亡中，神秘女子再次出现，她告诉品特自己的名字叫做凯瑟琳（伊莎贝拉·米珂 Izabella Miko 饰），并且希望品特能够利用约翰卡特的身份帮助他们做事。迫于情势，品特答应了凯瑟琳的要求，而在一次次惊现的动作场面后，品特明白，只有找到真正的约翰卡特，自己才有可能回归到原来的生活轨迹中去。
