剧情梗概：描写查理成功地抢劫了新墨西哥的银行，但在抢劫过程中遇到了许多意想不到的事，且这笔钱是黑手党准备抢劫的，这样他就成了警方和黑手党的共同敌人。最后他凭聪明才智将黑手党炸死，并摆脱警方携带赃款溜掉了。

大盗查理准备实施一次抢劫：新墨西哥银行。但在此过程中却遭遇了种种不顺。首先，他偷窃的汽车被人认了出来；其次，他安排在银行的内线也被打死。最糟的是，他的老婆在抢劫中负了伤，无法一起逃跑，于是，他只得将老婆留在汽车里，然后引爆汽车，自己独自一人逃走。后来，查理得知黑手党也准备抢劫他抢到手的这笔钱，因此他现在既是警察的追捕目标，同时也是黑手党的追杀对象。为弄到假护照，查理让其同伙哈曼调换了妻子的牙科病历。然后，为了除掉黑手党派来追杀他的莫利，他又施诡计，让莫利相信钱藏在富人梅纳德的家中，致使莫利上当受骗，而被炸死。最后，带着赃款的查理摆脱了警察，消失得无影无踪。
