暑假到了。女大学生格蕾丝?安德鲁斯（索菲亚?布什Sophia Bush饰）和同校男友吉姆?哈尔西（扎卡里?耐顿Kyle Davis饰）打算一路开车前往墨西哥州，体验浪漫刺激的公路旅行。路上却撞见神色不太寻常的路人约翰?莱德尔（西恩?宾Sean Bean饰），请求搭顺风车。两个大学生虽然有所迟疑，但也答应了约翰的请求。

怎知噩梦从此上演。约翰在车上毫不饰掩他的杀人计划，他以杀人为乐，并且目标说不定就是眼前两个手无寸铁的大学生。格蕾丝和吉姆惊恐万状，一番惊险搏斗终于把约翰推出车外，仓皇逃去。噩梦就此完毕？抑或一切还只是刚刚开始？
