格雷戈（Ben Stiller 本?斯蒂勒 饰）准备向相恋多年的女友潘米拉（Teri Polo特莉?保罗 饰）求婚时，意外获悉了求婚成功成功与否，不仅要过美人关，更要过岳父关。潘米拉的姐姐下个礼拜即将举行婚礼，届时格雷戈将和潘米拉一起回家参加婚礼。小伙子心想这次正是讨好未来岳父，搞定岳父那关的大好时机。

格雷戈的名字在美语中很容易被理解成“同性恋?性交者”的意思，有着这么个稀奇古怪的名字，注定格雷戈拜见未来岳父之行不会如他所料那般顺利。
