1982年新艺城电影公司成立不久，以石天、麦嘉、黄百鸣、徐克等为首的「新艺城七怪」集众人之智慧，彷傚荷里活「占士邦」片集模式拍出了《最佳拍档》，上映时盛况空前，创下香港开埠以来最高票房。其后开拍的续集口碑与票房亦是极佳，其中除明星效应、搞笑桥段精彩外，还有层出不穷穷的特技元素和精彩绝伦的动作场面。1986年，导演林岭东与许冠杰、麦嘉等原班人马，加上叶蒨文联手演出，齐来越洋迎救张艾嘉的恶死差婆，打造《最佳拍档 4: 千里救差婆》！

《最佳拍档》第四集讲述纽西兰科学家发明三菱镜可激发人体内的超能力、黑帮欲夺取三菱镜及报告但不成功。King Kong(许冠杰饰)及科学家的女儿Sally将镜带返香港。黑帮跟随他们并掳走光头神探(麦嘉 饰)的妻子贺警司(张艾嘉饰)，最佳拍档誓要远赴纽西兰救贺警司及对付黑帮……
