维拉德（克利斯丁·格拉夫 Crispin Glover 饰）是一个性格十分内向腼腆的青年。在公司里，他的反应迟钝和笨手笨脚惹出了许多的麻烦，致使他遭到老板和同事们的无情嘲笑排挤，终日生活在压抑和委屈之中。维拉德唯一的两个朋友是本和苏格拉底，它们是两只拥有着高超智商的老鼠。

不幸的是，维拉德的同事在偶然之中发现了苏格拉底的存在，苏格拉底被当成普通的老鼠被踩死了。这巨大的悲剧给维拉德和本带来了毁灭性的打击，一人一鼠在绝望之中决定联手向人类复仇，他们率领着终日生活在阴影里的鼠族大军，拉开了一场充满了惨叫和鲜血的，跨越了人类和鼠类两个种族之间的荣誉之战。
