中央电视台与新西兰自然历史公司（NHNZ）、美国公共广播电视台（PBS）、德国电视二台（ZDF）等机构联合摄制的5集大型自然类高清纪录片《大太平洋》，将于2017年12月31日至2018年1月4日，每天21:00在纪录频道播出。

太平洋覆盖了整个地球面积的三分之一。它的面积超过地球所有陆地面积之和，代表性的庞然大物在这里安家落户，珍奇物种在这里繁衍生息，还有无数尚待人类发掘的神秘生物潜伏在此。

纪录片《大太平洋》运用4K高分辨率摄像机进行拍摄，打破陆地与海洋的界限，以前所未见的方式呈现太平洋的故事。本片拍摄的物种和故事多达近30个，分布在全球14个国家和地区。颠覆传统以地区、习性、物种串联故事的方式，一集一个情感主线，一个动物主角，通过它的迁徙，将不同动物的故事串联在一起，并且每集聚焦于太平洋的某个标志性特色：激情、贪婪、狂暴和神秘，将太平洋上的各色故事交织在一起，刻画出这片海洋丰富多彩的每一面。为观众了解太平洋提供新鲜的视角，引发观众共鸣。
