太田垣康男が手掛けるマンガ『機動戦士ガンダム サンダーボルト』がアニメになり、2015年12月より全4話にわたり上映され話題を呼んでいる。2016年4月22日からはいよいよ第4話の有料配信がスタートする。

この配信に合わせてビッグなニュースが発表された。『機動戦士ガンダム サンダーボルト』が映画館にイベント上映で登場、さらにBlu-ray とDVDでも発売される。

イベント上映と映像ソフト化にあたっては、それまで配信されてきた『機動戦士ガンダム サンダーボルト』全4話に新作カットを加えたディレクターズカット版とする。タイトルも新たに『機動戦士ガンダム サンダーボルト DECEMBER SKY』となる。
