剧情:

这是个诡异的故事，画家约翰和妻子艾尔玛居住在荒凉的孤岛上，画家经常为怪诞的梦境困扰，醒来他总是将梦境绘在速写本上。妻子有天碰到了一个精灵般的老婆婆，催促她去读约翰的日记，看后她发现了丈夫的秘密，后来，日记里描绘的城堡主人梅堪约他们做客，在城堡里艾尔玛发现了这些人曾经出现在丈夫的速写本上。回家路上，艾尔玛恳求丈夫远离那些人，而画家一言不发走了。回到家中画家对妻子承认在悬崖边杀害过一个孩子，第二天，城堡里神秘的访客再度约翰的家，并诱惑约翰再次来的城堡，看见了恶魔的仪式也陷入无法自拔的境地，而城堡外艾尔玛徒劳寻找着约翰，但是，她找到的是他的遗物，却永远失去了他。

幕后制作：

影片将惊悚片和超现实的元素相结合，表现艺术创造和疯狂之间的内在联系，是伯格曼导演的惟一恐怖片。两位主角以精湛的表演，展现了心理扭曲的痛苦，极具震撼力。
