风流律师艾格曼与昔日情妇——女演员出身的黛西瑞不期而遇，这时的黛西瑞已经成为另一名有妇之夫——麦肯伯爵的情妇，而艾格曼的儿子也面临了同样的问题，他的感情天平在同龄的继母和女仆之间犹豫不决。结果，在黛西瑞母亲出面邀请的一次周末聚会里，这四对男女终于各有所属。这是导演英格玛 ·伯格曼早期短暂喜剧创作阶段中的纯熟之作，拍摄手法十分轻松，整个风格与其日后作品的沉重艰深大相径庭。本片曾获戛纳电影节特别奖，成为导演第一部国际上收获巨大成功的作品。
