对于大一新生亚当·巴克利（特拉沃·摩根饰）来说，他意识到自己距离加入兄弟会仅有一步之遥了，只要他能够挺过最后一关的话……很快，亚当就发现自己被人蒙上了眼睛，坐在一辆货车的后座上，他即将面对的是一场严峻且棘手的考验，他不得不通过抢劫一家高端的自助食品商店来获得加入兄弟会的许可。然而，仅仅过了几分钟，他却亲眼目睹了另外一个立誓入会的同伴在抢劫的过程中受到了枪击。

弗兰克（乔恩·福斯特饰）无疑是兄弟会中最有权势的成员之一，所以他才能负责照看这些只能在夜间举行的“入会仪式”，本来，他完全可以让那位身受枪伤的伙伴活着走出被抢劫的食品商店的，但是，他显然还没有意识到，兄弟会的麻烦才刚刚开始而已……最初的时候，弗兰克希望能够在不用将伤者送进医院的情况下让一切恢复平静，他认为，兄弟会可以自己将事情处理的很好——然而，随着他们的每一次行动都制造出了接连不断的灾难，亚当渐渐地意识到，他不得不和弗兰克以及其他兄弟会的成员对抗，就为了挽救他好朋友的生命。
