◇ 故事：改编自经典同名儿童故事书

似乎每个人在小的时候都会与各种各样的昆虫有着不解的渊源。这个故事讲的是十一岁的男孩比利(卢克·本沃德)随父母搬到了有着“美国蚯蚓之都”的邓肯威尔小镇，因此，小比利也要转入新的学校，与新的同学朋友一同生活、学习。但新环境下的新同学似乎很难在短时间内接纳这个一脸调皮像、一头金发的小子。

尤其是在这个充满了昆虫的学校里。因此，聪明的比利为了能尽快与新伙伴们打成一片，便想出了一个与昆虫有关的妙计--“在一天里吃十只毛虫”。不但能迅速和新伙伴们拉近距离、树立威信，还能使自己很快适应这里“昆虫遍地”的生活节奏。然而，昆虫可不是那么好吃的，无论是生吃还是油炸……

◇ 制作班底

虽是已进中年，鲍勃·道尔曼仍非常活跃于电影的台前幕后。不过其在好莱坞的名气始终都在妹妹南茜·道尔曼的笼罩之下。很多时候，人们提起道尔曼氏都会先想到他的演员妹妹。事实上，鲍勃是编剧出身，不过在多年的编剧生涯中亦是毁誉参半，既有过勇夺艾美奖最佳编剧奖的辉煌，也有过曾将同样著名的金酸莓奖最差编剧奖提名揽入怀中的倒霉遭遇。许多年来，在编剧上已经看不到多少光明的鲍勃·道尔曼开始转行，从事导演工作。

其间也曾尝试过演员和制片等行当，不过也只是短暂的经历而已。自从四年前初次体验了自编自导的处女作《摇滚姐妹》(The Banger Sister)之后，鲍勃便开始着重倾向此路。况且《摇滚姐妹》在当时还受到了专业的影评人以及一些影迷们的认可。因此，他也更有勇气将自己的导演之路走下去了。此次，鲍勃慧眼看中了托马斯·洛克威尔的著名儿童故事作品，便二话不说，亲自执笔改编剧本，并再次执导筒，力求把故事中调皮鬼比利塑造得活灵活现。在暑期将末的9月，为孩子们奉献全新风格的儿童电影故事……

本片改编自托马斯·洛克威尔于1972年发表的经典儿童故事书《如何吃油炸昆虫》。图书的受欢迎程度自然会影响着影片的走势，这一点似乎好莱坞所有的导演和制片人都清楚的很。尤其是儿童类型的故事，更是近年来在暑期档不败的品种之一。投资小、回报高，何人不乐此不疲？的确。儿童电影一向是和恐怖以及喜剧相提并论的在好莱坞电影大工厂里最得意的产品之一。往远一点看，上个世纪早期，美国尚处在工业大萧条的时期，一代著名的童星秀兰·邓波儿的横空出世，带给乐电影界乃至整个社会极大的影响，她以其天真无邪的微笑和乐观的精神态度带给广大人们精神的慰藉以及无尽的欢乐。

制片人们都深知这个恒久不变的道理--孩子的钱最好赚。况且，孩子看电影总有大人作陪，如此捆绑销售何乐不为？前年的《牛仔裤的夏天》、去年的《都是戴茜惹的祸》等都曾是当时票房榜的前列之作。此次，聪明的导演鲍勃·道尔曼“纠集”了众多天赋异秉的童星加盟，自然会有不错的前景在等待着他……
