亚当告别厌倦已久撰写讣告的工作，从新泽西州来到纽约，以其强烈的新闻意识和灵敏的社会嗅觉成了滚石杂志社的一名记者。加盟滚石后的首次任务，亚当就被马克派去采访约瑟夫·麦肯齐。麦肯齐是一位电脑商，因涉嫌做毒品生意而被政府起诉，可亚当却把眼睛盯上了更具社会意义的“运动情缘”俱乐部。

亚当以不公开采访录音带为条件，成功的完成了对麦肯齐的独家采访。与此同时，对“运动情缘”俱乐部的采访却因为有氧训练顶级教练杰西的拒绝而进展不大。然而，杰西不久就被亚当的帅气和性感所征服，并一步步把亚当领进了自己的生活空间。

为了迎合政府的舆论导向，马克在未征求亚当许可的前提下将一篇“寻找健美先生”的报道进行了违背原意的删改。刊发出的报道引起了俱乐部会员的强烈不满，杰西为此也对亚当产生了怨恨。幸运的是，政府对麦肯齐的起诉由于亚当的坚持而被判无罪，此时的杰西也因此消除了对亚当的怨恨而敞开爱情的大门，迎接着亚当的归来。
