身高超过两米、体重将近五百磅的沃特（The Big Show 饰）自幼生长在圣托马斯孤儿院里，业已35岁的他至今仍在孤儿院内生活，小男孩汉瑞是他最好的朋友。某天，一场事故烧毁了孤儿院的厨房，按照相关法律这里面临着被关闭的命运。为了让好友和其他孩子不至于无家可归，沃特决定承担起筹措资金修缮厨房的重任。与此同时，格斗教练埃迪·沙利文也正被欠款所困扰。偶然机缘让他结识体形庞大的沃特，他决心将其训练成格斗高手，然后前往新奥尔良参加业余专业混合格斗冠军赛，并赢得奖金。为了共同的目的，这两个男人以及孤儿院的女员工玛丽一同朝着新奥尔良进发……
