罗伯特（多格雷·斯科特 Dougray Scott 饰）是一名新闻记者，为了撰写关于约瑟玛利亚（查理·考克斯 Charlie Cox 饰）的专题报道而对其身世展开了调查。让罗伯特没有想到的是，约瑟玛利亚和自己的父亲马奥洛（韦斯·本特利 Wes Bentley 饰）是青梅竹马的好友，两人甚至曾经在同一家神学院上过学。
