乔·福斯特（卢卡斯·内夫 Lucas Neff 饰）自诩是看过无数恐怖片的恐怖达人，经典影片的段落台词不仅随口而出，在现实中也致力于寻求刺激，甚至和女朋友琳西（凯特琳·斯塔西 Caitlin Stasey 饰）的约会也要挑在鬼屋酒吧进行。新婚不久，乔喊来和他有着同样爱好的好友本（克里斯·马奎特 Chris Marquette 饰）及其妻子艾什莉（斯蒂芬妮·德雷克 Stephanie Drake 饰）来家中共度万圣节。此前盘桓酒吧期间，有一个自称来自恐惧有限公司的人主动搭讪，声称可以为乔打造前所未有的超恐怖体验。虽然本、琳西告诫乔绝不可接触这家可疑的公司，但跃跃欲试的乔还是把电话打了过去。
